Shipley University® provides recognized credentials to individuals and organizations seeking improved results in business development. Employers and professionals can be confident that Shipley Certification means something - knowledge of industry best practices and completion of core and elective course requirements.
Basic Certification Requirements
Requires successful completion of Shipley’s three core courses (6 professional units). Similar, approved courses from other professional development and learning providers are also acceptable for core course units. The core courses are:
- Capturing Business – Strategies for positioning with customers on major programs and pursuits
- Managing Proposals – Methods and tools for managing complex, strategic proposal efforts
- Writing Proposals – Best practices for developing win strategies and themes, creating compelling content, and applying customer focused language
Plus, completion of elective learning options tailored to your needs (4 elective professional units required) The following list is an example of electives:
Shipley eLearning modules also provide a way to obtain elective learning units. Successful completion of each eLearning module is credited as 1/3 of an elective unit. Click here to view available self-paced learning options from Shipley
Foundation Level APMP certification also counts as one elective unit toward Basic Certification.

Advanced Certification Requirements
Advanced certification from Shipley University® is achieved through successful completion of the requirements for Basic Certification, plus evaluation, assessment, and demonstration of competency in key business development areas. Currently, there are two specialty areas for Advanced Certification:
- Capture Management – Completion of at least the Professional Level of Capture Manager Certification qualifies for Shipley Advanced Certification in capture management.
- Proposal Management – Completion of APMP’s Professional Level certification qualities for Shipley Advanced Certification in proposal management
International certification is also available based on global needs and requirements from Shipley International Offices.
